Neuromonics Tinnitus Treatment
Why choose Hearing Help if you have Tinnitus?
Erin Seamer, Audiologist has had special interest in helping tinnitus suffers since 2005. At this time she worked in a unique tinnitus clinic, treating patients exclusively with tinnitus. During this time she trained other Audiologists in tinnitus and tinnitus treatment and was involved in reviewing, editing research articles about tinnitus treatment.
Clinically proven tinnitus treatments are available, and at Hearing Help we have a range of options selected to best suit your tinnitus needs. These include Neuromonics tinnitus treatment, masking devices or Apps, hearing aids and counselling, in 2025 we will also be offering Tinnitus Retraining Therapy. Tinnitus treatments are not a “cure” but for many sufferers’ treatment options do exist, for some, such as Australian Veterans these treatments can be provided fully subsidised. We know that following a comprehensive assessment and discussion regarding tinnitus, many sufferers feel more in control of their tinnitus, and they can manage it better with improved awareness and understanding.
Step One
For those individuals who are suffering from tinnitus, a hearing test is highly recommended. This is especially true if your tinnitus is only in one ear, pulsatile (beating, pulsing or thumping sound like your pulse), or if the tinnitus started suddenly. In some cases further medical review may be required and a hearing test provides vital information to other professionals (such as General Practitioners or Ear, Nose and Throat specialists) to better understand your tinnitus and hearing.
Step Two
Many with tinnitus require a more comprehensive tinnitus assessment. Hearing Help offers a 2 hour tinnitus appointment. This starts with a full tinnitus history taken by an experienced Audiologist. Followed by a comprehensive hearing test, then aspects of your tinnitus will be measured such as the pitch and loudness match, masking levels, and loudness discomfort levels. Finally, you can expect a comprehensive discussion regarding your tinnitus, an explanation of what tinnitus is, focusing on the Neurophysiological model of tinnitus. We then discuss your individual exacerbating factors and review tinnitus treatment options.
Neuromonics Tinnitus Treatment
The Neuromonics Tinnitus Treatment is a clinically proven, patented, FDA-cleared therapy designed to reduce tinnitus awareness and disturbance levels. It uses a unique audio profile tailored to each individual’s auditory profile and tinnitus to deliver relief, relaxation and comfort.
The Neuromonics Tinnitus Treatment (NTT) stems from research and PhD by Dr Paul Davis at the University of Western Australia in the late-90s and early-2000s. It has since undergone extensive clinical trials across Australia and the United States involving over 1,000 trial subjects and shown to be 83% effective in reducing the severity of subjective tinnitus by 40% or more. In 2005 Erin Seamer had the pleasure of working alongside Dr Paul Davis and benefited immensely from his mentorship.
The treatment takes 6 months to complete but candidates feel the effects of masking relief from the fitting date. It uses a customised acoustic signal delivered from a personal device through headphones. Patients listen to the treatment for 2+ hours per day and generally find this time easy to adhere to as the treatment provides relief.
Erin has been working with the Neuromonics tinnitus treatment since 2005 and throughout the treatment, she arranges regular one-on-one check-ins regarding your outcomes. She will support you through the six-month treatment program, and monitor your progress, provide guidance and assistance, and make adjustments to the treatment as needed.
Over a period of weeks-to-months, most users experience a significant reduction in the disturbance caused by their tinnitus. The goal is to reach a point where tinnitus becomes a minor, background noise having minimal if any impact on your daily routine.
The journey with the Neuromonics Tinnitus Treatment is about regaining comfort and control over your life, reducing the impact of tinnitus, and improving overall well-being.

Treatment Options
Identifying and managing exacerbating factors
Some tinnitus sufferers benefit from identifying, addressing and managing their factors that are exacerbating their tinnitus. Addressing these factors may involve other health practitioners like psychologists, General Practitioners or Ear, Nose and Throat specialists, temporomandibular joint specialists, Neurologists or physiotherapists. Alternatively, these factors could be addressed by the Audiologist such as hearing aid fittings, masking or ear wax removal.
Lifestyle Adjustments
Lifestyle adjustments can help manage tinnitus symptoms. Reducing exposure to loud noises, managing stress through relaxation techniques, can all contribute to alleviating tinnitus. Additionally, avoiding caffeine and nicotine, which can exacerbate symptoms, and ensuring adequate sleep can improve overall well-being and reduce the impact of tinnitus.
Hearing Aids
Hearing aids can be an effective solution for managing tinnitus, particularly for individuals who also experience hearing loss. These devices amplify external sounds, which can help mask the internal sounds of tinnitus, making it less noticeable. Modern hearing aids often come equipped with tinnitus masking features, such as white noise generators or customisable sound therapy programs, designed to provide relief. By improving overall hearing and reducing the contrast between tinnitus and external sounds, hearing aids can significantly enhance the quality of life for tinnitus sufferers.
Sound Therapy
Sound Therapy Is a very global term for clinically approved treatments like Neuromonics Tinnitus treatment and Tinnitus Retraining therapy (TRT). These treatments are very effective for the right candidate and are offered at Hearing Help. Sound therapy can also involve masking, which is a useful strategy to cover tinnitus and provide relief. At Hearing Help we can assist those with a milder degree of tinnitus to better understand a more comfortable masking signal that provides better coverage and relief at softer volumes. We can also provide information or strategies to deliver this signal such as sound generators, sleep earbuds (not earplugs but buds that produce masking) or sound generating pillows. These devices generally utilise Bluetooth to connect to a smartphone and may involve downloading free apps.
